Selfie:
Artist's Statement
The message I’m trying to convey through this selfie collage is who I am as a whole, but also things that make me happy. Looking at the sketchbook, there’s a blank page, which I wanted to use to portray new beginnings. On top of that, there’s a pride flag, because my identity is a huge part of my life right now. I included my dog and books because those are two of my favorite things that make me smile every day. Finally, the sunset in the back is one that I saw with my best friend a few weeks ago, and it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Overall, I just wanted this collage to explain a little of who I am and what I prioritize in life.
Double Exposure:
Mending the Tapestries of Youth
My goal with this photo was to create an internal reflecting effect because my gaze is somewhere other than the camera, off to the side, which creates a sense of mystery and isolation. The trees and leaves in the background picture are from the forest outside of Skyline, where I walk everyday. I used them because I knew they'd line up with my face well, and they symbolize continuity and stability. This photo, along with the optimistic quote, is meant to give off the feeling of new beginnings, hope, and nostalgia for the past. Comparing this selfie to my first one, I think I executed the editing better and created it without any struggle. I think I got my main emotion/message across better, and I like the outcome more. The first one was still just me experimenting with tools and Photoshop, so it was messier and less emotionally-provoking.
