Artist Statement -- these photos are taken at the top of a hill, with lots of grass and trees. Specifically, I took these (and all the other) photos at the Arboretum in Ann Arbor! I chose this composition because I liked the seemingly chaotic layout of the grass and trees, and having the camera close to the ground included an interesting angle. I'm trying to convey not a feeling, but more the idea that nature grows randomly and although the grass and trees are placed separately, they look scattered next to each other. I don't really like how the brown tree turned out with the filter, but the non-filtered photo is a win for me.
Artist Statement -- these were captured on a field with flowers, bushes, and trees. I liked using the flower as a focal point, and bringing the camera up close to it to emphasize its importance. I chose this composition because there is a very clear foreground, middle ground, and background. I'm trying to convey individuality and spunk in these photos, because of the emphasis on the flower and the interesting color combination because of the bushes and grass. I have no complaints with these photos, they seem fairly good to me.
Artist Statement -- these photos were captured from the side of a hill facing the forest and other plants. I chose this composition because I noticed how the sunlight highlighted the trees in the back of the frame but not in the front, which created a cool contrast that isn't usually used in photos. I'm trying to convey separation and loneliness in this photo because of that use of light, but also the distance between the main tree and the further away forest. I really liked how these turned out because of the lighting, and that one weird branch sticking up from the tree in the middle.
Artist Statement -- I took these further away from a hill with trees on it, with the shadow of other trees on the right. I chose this place especially because of the bright orange tree in sharp contrast to the other green trees and grass. The main feeling I'm trying to convey is nostalgia and confidence, because the tree could symbolize the transition between summer and fall and nostalgic moments about that. Its unique and contrasting color is where the confidence comes from, because it's a very bold element of the photo.
Artist Statement -- These are an upward-looking photo at some branches from different trees, with the sky as a background. I chose this composition because it's very simple, not distracting, but it also has lots of cool elements, like how the colors of the branches are different from each other and contrast well with the sky. Depending on your interpretation, the meaning could have something to do with our differences (different tree species,) but we're all human (they all come from trees in the same forest ecosystem.) So the feeling I'm trying to convey is unity and compassion for all. I didn't end up liking how the leaves looked like with the filter, but I like the angles I chose.
